Baljinder Kaur speaks up on her Victory

AAP candidate Baljinder Kaur defeats her nearest Congress rival Khushbaz Singh by a margin of over 19200 votes.

Talwandi Sabo, constituency number 94 in Punjab assembly, falls in Bathinda district. The result of vidhan sabha election in Talwandi Sabo is expected to be released shortly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had fielded Prof Baljinder Kaur from the seat. Congress has given the ticket to Kushbaz Singh Jatana, whereas, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) reposed its faith in four-time sitting MLA Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu.
Ahead of the 2012 assembly elections, Jeet Mohinder jumped ship from Congress to SAD. He succeeded in winning the seat with a massive margin of more than 45,000 votes.
Baljinder Kaur, the AAP candidate, is considered to the prime challenger from the seat. The 31-year-old lecturer created buzz in Talwandi Sabo with her door-to-door campaign and ‘aam aadmi’ appeal. Baljinder is banking upon the anti-incumbency against incumbent MLA Jeet Mohinder. Baljinder also played the native card, appealing voters to choose her owing to her strong ancestral roots in Talwinder Sabo.
As per the data released by Election Commission, the total number of registered voters in Talwandi Sabo is 1,48,422. In the election held on February 4, the voter turnout was 86.2 per cent, way above the state average of 77.4.
