Sri Akal Takht Sahib has formed an eight-member panel to probe the alleged tampering with ‘amrit sanchar maryada’ by the Namdhari cult. Told to submit its report in a month, the panel will also suggest the action to be taken against cult led by Thakur Dalip Sinh, if found guilty.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee had also probed the allegation. “As this is a serious issue, it needs further investigation,” said Giani Gurbachan Singh.

Reports had been received at the Takht that ‘havan’ and ‘amrit sanchar’ were performed by seven baptised women of the Namdhari sect, allegedly in violation of Sikh tenets.
Giani Gurbachan Singh had recently directed the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to scrutinise the matter and subsequently invited suggestions from Sikh intellectuals and religious bodies from across the world.
“We have constituted a panel comprising representatives of prominent Sikh organisations. It has been asked to submit a report in a month. We will take a decision accordingly,” he said.
The panel includes Avtar Singh Hit (Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee); Bhai Partap Singh (Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle); Giani Resham Singh (Budha Dal 96 Krori Nihang Jathebandi); Sant Teja Singh (Nirmale Sampada); Principal Surinder Singh (SGPC member); and Waryam Singh (former secretary, Dharam Parchar Committee). SGPC’s vice secretary, Dharam Parchar Committee, Simranjit Singh would coordinate with the panel.

Sri Akal Takht Sahib also asked all gurdwara managements to spend 10% of the monthly donation for the education of children. They have also been told to make arrangements for conducting classes of religious education and Punjabi language.
