A 30-year-old man was shot dead in his house located at Jagdamba Vihar in the city on Wednesday morning. It has been alleged that the victim’s in-laws brought in an unidentified man who opened fired in the house. It is a suspected to be a case of honour killing as parents of woman, who had an inter-caste marriage against their will, decided to go against the marriage after their daughter conceived for few months.
According to police, Mamta Chaudhary (26) was in love with a man, identified as Amit Nair, who was a civil engineer. “Two years ago, she told about the affair to her parents and brother who got annoyed and didn’t permit her for such wedding. Her brother was most disturbed since Amit was his friend. Thus, family of the girl decided not to keep any relations with her and were not visiting each other,” additional commissioner of police (Crime) Prafful Kumar told TOI on Wednesday.

Few months ago, when Mamta told her mother that she has conceived and expecting a baby in some months. “After hearing their daughter was pregnant, the parents started visiting her. The girl was happy too and thought birth of the child will end and all bitterness in their relation,” said a senior police officer.
However, Mamta was totally wrong in her assumption as her parents, Jeevan Ram Chaudhary(65) and the mother, came to her house with an unidentified man on Wednesday. “The father asked her to call her husband in drawing room where they were sitting. Her husband, who was in the washroom, came a little late and after he arrived the unidentified man opened four rounds of fire on him. Thereafter, they managed to flee from the scene in a vehicle parked outside. One more man was in the vehicle,” said Ashok Gupta, deputy commissioner of police (West). Amit suffered grave injuries on her neck, windpipe and chest and succumbed on the spot.
