Special task force (STF) arrested a ‘blue-eyed’ inspector in Jalandhar on Monday for his alleged link with smugglers.

Inderjit Singh, who was transferred from Kapurthala to Ferozepur a few days ago, was popular among senior police officials for busting a gang of drug smugglers in the past.

A team of STF conducted an early morning raid at his residence in Police Line, Jalandhar.

The team arrested the inspector and recovered 12 bore, 315 bore, .32 bore revolver, 9mm Italian pistol, one .38 bore revolver, one AK 47, 7.62mm calibre and over 700 live cartridges from his possession. The STF has recovered Rs 16, 50,000 cash, 3,550 British pound (Rs 290052.75) and Toyota Innova car (PB-BG-7676) from his house.

Sources said during the interrogation, Inderjit revealed that he possessed 3kg smack, 4kg heroin in his second compartment, which was also then recovered by the STF team.

Inspector general of police, (STF), Parmod Ban, of Jalandhar Zone confirmed his arrest from Jalandhar and said he was involved in drug smuggling and had links with notorious gangsters.

“The interrogation is on in the case. We will share further information in the evening,” the IGP added.

A case has been registered against the 25/54/59 Arms Act and 22/61/85 act of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Inderjit.
