Travel agent dupes 70 youth of Rs50 lakh

A travel agent allegedly duped as many as 70 youth of Hoshiarpur district, who lodged a police complaint today. They had gone to the Delhi airport, where they got to know that the papers and “visas” given to them by the travel agent were fake.
The victims alleged they were duped of over Rs 50 lakh by Rajvir Singh of Gulf Visa Service and were given bogus papers to travel to Malaysia. They were also promised work as cooks and helpers.
The victims said that they went to the Delhi airport to board the flight but the airport authority officials sent them back saying their papers were forged.

The accused is absconding.
Most of the victims are from Garhshankar and nearby areas. They said the agent had given them a printout of “Malaysian visa” and had asked them to reach Delhi saying that they would get other papers concerned and passports there. However, when the youth reached the airport and called the agent, his mobile phone was switched off. They presented the papers before Airport Authority officials but they said the papers were fake. After coming back from Delhi, they went to the agent’s office but there was no one and many passports were seen lying there. The victims lodged their complaint before the SP (H) of the Hoshiarpur police. The police have started investigations.
