Drug trader found dead in Nurmahal police lock-up

An alleged drug trader reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at the Nurmahal police station early this morning. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the police station.
The accused was identified as Lahori (43), a resident of Bath village, who was arrested in a case under the NDPS Act on June 3. He was locked in the Nurmahal police lock-up.
As per the police, at around 2 am, the man complained of suffocation in his lock-up. Thereafter, he was shifted to a lock-up with a cooler, according to the police.
The police personnel on duty then locked the main gate of the lock-up. After a couple of hours, the same cops saw Lahori hanging from the ceiling fan at the place. He was rushed to hospital, but to no avail.
The body was handed over to his family after conducting the postmortem.

Kapurthala jail inmate dies
An inmate of Kapurthala Modern Jail died after a heart attack early on Thursday morning. Kumar Swami, a resident of Qazi Mandi in Jalandhar, was facing a 10-year conviction since 2013, when he was booked under the NDPS Act. Swami reportedly complained of pain in his chest at 4 am after which he was attended to by a doctor on duty in the compound. With his condition going critical, he was referred to the Civil Hospital, where the doctors on emergency duty declared him brought dead. On the statement of Shanti, wife of the deceased, the Kotwali police went ahead with proceedings under Section 176 of the CrPC. The postmortem of the body was conducted by doctors in the presence of a magistrate.
