Cheque bounce: Actress Alka Kaushal jailed

A local court has upheld the two-year jail term awarded to TV actor Alka Kaushal and her mother in a cheque-bounce case. Both were sent to the Sangrur jail last evening.
The complainant, Avtar Singh of Langriya village, said Alka had borrowed about Rs 50 lakh from him seven years ago to make a TV serial. Later, she gave him two cheques for Rs 25 lakh, each dated September 15, 2011. When he deposited these in the Amargarh branch of the PNB, both were dishonoured.

“When Avtar failed to get his money back, he filed a complaint in the Malerkotla court in 2015. On November 27, 2015, the court sentenced Alka and her mother Sushila Badola to two years’ imprisonment,” said Sukhbir Punia, counsel for the complainant.
Alka and Sushila filed an appeal in the Sangrur court against the verdict.
“The court of Additional Sessions Judge Gaurav Kalia quashed their appeal and upheld the lower court’s decision,” said Punia.
