The deceased was identified as Labha Masih, 45, of Jaffarwal village under Dhariwal police station in Gurdaspur district. On a statement of the deceased’s brother Pamma Masih, a case under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC has been registered at the Dhariwal police station against Labha’s wife Babbi and her paramour Tindri of the same village.

Pamma told the police that on Sunday night, he along with his other brothers went to Labha’s house to pick him for sowing paddy plants in the fields of a landlord of the village. He said that on reaching his house, they heard loud voices coming from the house.
He said when they forced open the door, they found Babbi strangulating Labha with her duppatta while her paramour was striking him with a sharp-edged weapon.

Pamma told the police that on seeing them, Babbi and Tindri fled the spot.
He said before they could take Labha to a hospital, he succumbed to the injuries.
On receiving information, superintendent of police (detective) Harvinder Singh, deputy superintendent of police (detective) Dev Dutt and Dhariwal SHO Kuldip Singh reached the spot and started investigation.
Pamma said Labba was a farm labourer and his wife developed illicit relations with co-villager Tindri and she had been advised time and again by her husband to mend her ways, but to no avail.
