Man stabbed to death by liquor mafia in Jalandhar

Jalandhar : A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death in Jalandhar on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday by a group of men belonging to a thriving liquor mafia.

The deceased has been identified as Manish Luthar, a property dealer in Janak Nagar. He got married a month ago.
The accused chased Luthar and then stabbed him several times with sharp-edged weapons in the abdomen as the victim had been opposing the sale of illegal liquor.
He was taken to civil hospital and then referred to Johal Hospital, where he died on Thursday morning.
Additional deputy commissioner of police II (ADCP II) Amrik Singh Powar said, “Luthar’s family has named Ujagar and others behind the murder.”

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Ujagar Singh, Pawan, Gaurav and other unknown persons.
The area comes in Basti Shiekh locality, which is infamous for the mushrooming of this illicit trade.
The accused ‘Ujagar’ and his accomplices are absconding. He has support of leaders of ruling political party in the area.
Luthar’s body has been shifted to civil hospital for postmortem.
